Katrina Appell helps organizations achieve results using lean practices to enable people to perform their best. She has over 15 years of experience coaching, facilitating, and training of individuals and teams. Katrina’s doctoral research focused on effective methods for using lean product and process development principles and practices to achieve organizational objectives. She has coached many companies on lean principles and practices in various industries, including Caterpillar, Michigan Medicine, TechnipFMC, US Synthetic, and Whirlpool.
Katrina is president of Katrina Appell Consulting Inc., and a senior lean coach and faculty member at the Lean Enterprise Institute. For the Association of Manufacturing Excellence (AME), she serves as a board member of the great lakes region and has served on several international conference committees including co-chairing programming for the 2020 and 2021 AME international conferences. She holds a master’s and doctorate in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s in general engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Katrina serves on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign industrial and enterprise systems engineering alumni and advisory board, which she was previously president of.
